Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of thick bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat works great)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (room temperature)
  • 2-3 slices of your favorite cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix of both for extra cheesiness)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional, for a creamier texture)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh garlic (optional, for flavor)
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the pan: Place a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Allow it to warm up as you prepare the sandwich.
  2. Prepare the bread: Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. If you like, you can also spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the other side of the bread. This will give the grilled cheese an extra crispy, golden crust.
  3. Assemble the sandwich: On one slice of bread (buttered side down), layer your cheese slices. You can mix and match different types of cheese for a richer taste. Top with the second slice of bread, with the buttered side facing up.
  4. Grill the sandwich: Place the sandwich on the preheated skillet. Grill it for about 3-4 minutes per side, pressing it gently with a spatula to ensure the cheese melts evenly and the bread gets perfectly golden and crispy.
  5. Flip carefully: Once the first side is golden brown, flip the sandwich and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is completely melted and the bread is crispy and browned.
  6. Optional: Add garlic: If you’d like a garlicky twist, sprinkle a pinch of garlic powder on the buttered sides before grilling, or rub a cut clove of fresh garlic on the toasted bread.
  7. Serve: Once both sides are crispy and the cheese is gooey and melted, remove the sandwich from the pan. Let it sit for a minute before slicing to prevent the cheese from spilling out too quickly.

Tips for Extra Flavor:

  • For a slightly tangy kick, you can add a slice of tomato or some caramelized onions inside the sandwich.
  • Try different bread options like brioche for a sweeter touch or rye for a more robust flavor.

Enjoy your perfectly grilled, melty cheese sandwich!
