How to Clean your Coffee Maker with Vinegar

To clean your coffee maker with vinegar, first remove any old grounds and rinse the carafe. Then, mix equal parts white vinegar and water and pour the solution into the machine's reservoir. Run a brew cycle, letting the mixture sit for about 30 minutes to an hour halfway through to allow the vinegar to work. Afterward, discard the vinegar solution and run two to three cycles with fresh water to rinse the machine and remove any lingering vinegar smell or taste.

1. Prepare the Coffee Maker

Empty the carafe and filter basket of any old grounds or used coffee filters.

2. Make the Cleaning Solution
Fill the coffee maker's reservoir with a solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and water.

3. Run the Vinegar Cycle

Place a clean, new paper filter in the filter basket.
Turn on the coffee maker and run a full brew cycle.

Halfway through the brewing cycle, turn off the coffee maker and let the vinegar solution sit inside the machine for 30 minutes to an hour. This allows the vinegar to break down mineral buildup and residue.
Finish the brewing cycle to flush the vinegar from the internal components.

4. Rinse the Machine
Pour out the vinegar-water solution from the carafe.
Refill the reservoir with clean, fresh water.
Run two to three more full brew cycles with just fresh water to thoroughly rinse out the vinegar and eliminate any lingering odor or taste.

5. Clean the Removable Parts
Wash the carafe, brew basket, and any other removable parts with warm water and dish soap, using a clean sponge or cloth.
Rinse them thoroughly and allow them to air dry before reassembling the coffee maker.
Detach the carafe, brew basket, and any other removable parts from the machine.
